It is no secret that Facebook does not support conservative views, and does anything it can to let us know they are not welcome. Last year a former Facebook employee came forward and admitted that they routinely suppressed news stories of interest to conservative readers from the social network’s influential “trending” news section.
The most recent proof of their anti-conservative agenda comes from Elizabeth Johnston, a homeschooling mother of 10 who runs the popular “The Activist Mommy” Facebook page. The page was recently suspended for “breach of the Facebook Community Standards.” Her offense? She replied to a comment thread on the page with a verse from Leviticus condemning homosexuality.
Johnston said “Someone had commented underneath one of my videos and were commenting under the thread and said something about how Old Testament law prohibits the eating of pork — one of the homosexuals’ favorite arguments to make. I responded with just scriptural commentary, and that is considered ‘hate speech’ by Facebook. It was just very intellectual, and it was just a commentary on what the Bible says. There was no name calling or anything like that.”
Facebook’s community standards state: “Facebook removes hate speech, which includes content that directly attacks people based on their: race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, sex, gender, or gender identity, or serious disabilities or diseases.”
Facebook removed the comment on Feb. 9 and “The Activist Mommy” Facebook page, which has over 76,000 followers, was suspended for three days. So just to be clear, this woman defended her Christian views using a bible verse and was punished; meanwhile, the person who made the disparaging remark about Christianity was not reprimanded even though they attacked a religion.
After the suspension had was on Feb. 12, Johnston re-posted her thoughts on the Bible’s condemnation of homosexuality. Predictably Facebook removed the post again and suspended the account for an additional seven days.
Johnston explained, “Last Sunday, I posted something about the ban, explaining to my followers where I had been the last three days and reposted the screenshot and wrote #FacebookCensorship. That ticked them off and they didn’t like that at all. It was going viral. Just within a few hours, they had banned me again, and they were going to make it more painful.”
Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook have denied being ant-conservative, even though numerous reports like this continue to surface over the years. When accounts are suspended they give no concrete reason behind the action, they just point out their community standards and explain that Facebook removes various forms of “hate speech” — a term LGBT activists and Social Justice Warriors have used to label traditional biblical teachings on homosexuality.
Johnston points out that the way the Facebook algorithm is set up all that is needed for her account to be frozen is for liberal trolls and LGBT activists to report her account. “It would be one thing if Facebook said, ‘We’re liberals. This is our page and we can do whatever we want. It’s our property.’ I would appreciate that at least they were being honest and transparent,” Johnston added. “But no, they lie and say ‘we’re unbiased.’ But when Christians report nudity or pictures of Donald Trump assassinated with a bullet through his head, we get responses that say, ‘This does not violate Facebook’s community guidelines’ and the post remains.'”
We all know what we have to do, and that is to find alternative platforms to Facebook, Google, and other forms of media that attempt to silence Conservative and traditional views. Refusing to have Facebook pages and turning to social media platforms like Gab.Ai and Seen.Life, or using search engines like goodgopher.com is going to make the biggest impact and is the only option we have.
